Nawao Softstyle T-Shirt

The Nawao is said to be the original inhabitants of the islands of Hawaii who lived in harmony with nature. When the first migration of Polynesians arrived in Hawaii, the Nawao was not accustomed to their warrior ways and retreated back into the uplands or the Wao of the islands which the Polynesians felt was the realm of the gods (Akua). The realm called Wao Akua. Oriigally referrered to as the Mu Ai Maia (The banana eating Mu), the Kahuna or spiritual leaders who had befriended them, thought that the name given was disparaging and lacked respect. The Kahuna’s called them the Nawao (The uplands) as they were holders of the secrets of Wao Akua and was believed to be able to walk between the world of man and the world of the gods.
